Many employers 'keen to make long-term use of temporary staff'

A variety of firms are thinking about increasing the number of temporary members of staff they employ in the long term, new research has suggested.

Of those included in a recent study published by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), one in three organisations aim to enhance the size of their temporary workforce in the long run, in a development which may interest the likes of UK contractors.

Meanwhile, the confederation's JobsOutlook study has also shown that temporary members of staff still appear to be in demand in the shorter term as well.

The director of research at the organisation, Roger Tweedy, suggested that more stable conditions may be developing as a result of the recent general election.

He added: "There are increasingly positive signs of a gradual upturn in employers' hiring intentions, probably linked to greater post-election stability."

Earlier this week (June 16th), it was revealed by the Office for National Statistics that unemployment hit 2.47 million in the quarter leading up to April of this year.
