Employers might want to focus more on the workloads of their staff, according to one expert.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's senior public policy advisor, Ben Willmott, suggests that businesses should be vigilant to ensure that their staff are not under too much strain.
Among the factors that might add to the burden being placed upon workers, he commented: "It's not just working through your lunch break; it's also whether people are working excessive hours, whether they are staying on too long, whether they are in touch with work over the weekend."
Mr Willmott went on to say that employers may need to pay more attention to whether their staff are actually taking the right amount of breaks each day.
His remarks follow the publication of recent Chartered Society of Physiotherapy research.
UK contractors may be interested to note that the organisation found that as many as one out of every four of the country's workers often fail to take a single break during the day.
