Many of the country's smaller firms feel that their operations would be badly hit by the death of a key employee, according to new figures.
As many as 65 per cent of those queried in a recent Scottish Provident poll stated that they would be majorly affected by such an occurrence.
Meanwhile, if an important employee were to suffer a serious illness, 57 per cent of the survey's respondents said that the company they run would be impacted.
Other concerning statistics have been discussed by Scottish Provident national corporate sales manager Jerry Bayman.
He commented: "The statistics are frightening - in a business with four key male employees, there is a 29 per cent chance one will die before retirement."
In other news which may be of interest to the likes of UK contractor firms, Recruitment and Employment Confederation research recently suggested that a number of businesses are thinking about increasing their temporary workforces in the long run.
